PRIVACY POLICY

The Symrise privacy policy applies to all websites for which German Symrise companies are responsible. Symrise websites may contain links to foreign companies, to which our privacy policy does not apply. Symrise considers the protection of personal data to be of the utmost importance. Therefore, we would like to take this opportunity to inform you about how we protect your privacy when you make your personal data available to us. Personal data is all information that relates to an identified or identifiable natural person (data subject), e.g. name, address, contact information, username, IP address, photos and videos, location information, etc.

Insofar as personal data is stored and used for the proper implementation of our service offerings and for statistical purposes, this is done according to the provisions of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the German Federal Data Protection Act (BDSG) and the German Telemedia Act (TMG).

Below, we present to what extent and for what purposes user data is recorded, stored and used on the SymSelect website.

Server Log Files

When you visit our website, we automatically process in our systems the information that your browser transmits to us for security and technical reasons.

Essentially, the website provider automatically records and stores the information that your browser automatically transmits to us in server log files.

This information is:

  • Browser type and browser version
  • The operating system used
  • The referrer URL (the website that has referred to our website)
  • Host name and full IP address of the accessing computers
  • Date and time of the server request
  • The URL (website) viewed on our systems

This data is not combined with other data sources and we do not conduct any personalized statistical analysis based on this data. The basis of the data processing is Article 6(1) (b) of the GDPR, which permits the processing of data in order to perform a contract or pre-contractual measures.

If we need data in order to identify you personally (personal data) or contact you, you will always be explicitly asked. The data enables the execution of a requested transaction. This can involve, for example, the subscription to a newsletter or a company magazine.

Use and Sharing of Your Personal Data

Personal data that you enter on the SymSelect website or communicate to us in another manner is recorded, processed and stored to enable us to correspond with you and for the purposes for which you have made the information available to us. It is not shared without your consent unless the legal data protection regulations expressly provide otherwise.

If needed, we also pass the information along to companies affiliated to Symrise, service providers or other third parties. This may be necessary in order to render a requested service or transaction, such as order processing, event announcements, or for purposes of customer service. When sharing personal data with third parties, we limit ourselves to information that is necessary to perform our respective services. The respective third-party provider may use this personal data exclusively to perform the requested service or to conduct the required transaction that occurs on our behalf. In this connection, the service provider is committed by us in writing to comply with data protection laws, usually through agreement for data processing.

We will never pass along, sell or otherwise provide the personal data that we record from you to third parties for external marketing purposes.

You can review, modify or withdraw your consent to the use of your stored data at any time by sending an email to Symrise AG at symselectle(at)symrise.com. If you withdraw your consent to the use of your data, we can unfortunately no longer provide services for which we require your personal data.

Contact Form

Data transmitted by contact form, including your contact data, is stored exclusively in order to process your specific request. This data is not shared without your consent.

The data entered into the contact form is processed in order to handle your request (Article 6(1) (b) GDPR). It is possible to withdraw the consent you have already given at any time. An informal notification by email to symselectle(at)symrise.com is sufficient to withdraw your consent. The legality of the data processing operations prior to withdrawal is unaffected by such withdrawal.

The data transmitted via the contact form remains with us until you request its deletion, withdraw your consent to storage or the necessity of data storage no longer exists. Mandatory legal provisions – particularly retention periods – remain unaffected.

Vimeo

Our website uses features provided by the Vimeo video portal. This service is provided by Vimeo Inc., 555 West 18th Street, New York, New York 10011, USA.

If you visit one of our pages featuring a Vimeo plugin, a connection to the Vimeo servers is established. Here the Vimeo server is informed about which of our pages you have visited. In addition, Vimeo will receive your IP address. This also applies if you are not logged in to Vimeo when you visit our website or do not have a Vimeo account. The information is transmitted to a Vimeo server in the US, where it is stored.

If you are logged in to your Vimeo account, Vimeo allows you to associate your browsing behavior directly with your personal profile. You can prevent this by logging out of your Vimeo account.

For more information on how to handle user data, please refer to the Vimeo Privacy Policy at https://vimeo.com/privacy.

Cookies

Our website uses so-called cookies in several places. Cookies are small text files that your Web browser stores on your terminal device. Cookies help us to make our range of services more user-friendly, effective and secure.

A few of the cookies we use are so-called “session cookies.” Session cookies are automatically deleted after the end of your browser session. However, sometimes cookies with a longer storage period are used. Such cookies help us recognize you when you return to our website.

With a modern Web browser, you can monitor, restrict or block the placement of cookies. Many Web browsers can be configured in such a way that cookies are deleted automatically when the program is closed. The deactivation of cookies can result in limiting the functionality of our website.

The placement of cookies, which are necessary for executing electronic communication processes or providing you with certain functions you have requested (e.g. shopping cart), is based on Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. As the operator of this website, we have a legitimate interest in storing cookies to facilitate the error-free and smooth provision of our services. Insofar as other cookies are stored, for example, for analytical purposes, they will be addressed separately in this privacy policy.

We ourselves do not store any information in the local shared objects (LSO) area of your computer. In other words, we do not use any so-called “flash cookies.” However, other services to which we link, such as Vimeo, may use this function for their own purposes, if applicable.

Google Analytics

This website uses functions of the Google Analytics Web analytics service. The provider is Google, Inc., 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway Mountain View, CA 94043, USA. Google Analytics similarly uses “cookies.” The information generated by the cookie regarding your use of this website is usually transmitted to a Google server in the US and stored there.

Should IP anonymization be activated on this website, however, your IP address will be truncated by Google within the member states of the European Union or in other contractual states party to the Agreement on the European Economic Area before being transmitted. Only in exceptional cases will the full IP address be sent to a Google server in the US and truncated there. Google will use this information on behalf of the operator of this website in order to evaluate your use of the website, to compile reports on website activities, and to render other services related to website use and internet use for the website operator. Google will not combine the IP address transmitted by your browser via Google Analytics with other Google data.

The legal basis for the use of Google Analytics is Article 6(1) (f) GDPR.

You can prevent the storage of cookies by selecting the appropriate settings in your browser; though in this case you may not be able to fully use all of the functions of this website. In addition, you can prevent the recording of the data generated by the cookie and related to your use of the website (including your IP address) by Google and the processing of this data by Google by downloading and installing the browser add-on available at the following link:
tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout

You can find more detailed information on terms of use and data privacy at www.google.com/analytics/terms/us.html or at https://policies.google.com.

Please note that on this website Google Analytics is used with the extension “anonymizeIp” in order to ensure the anonymized recording of IP addresses (so-called IP masking). These IP addresses are processed further only in truncated form in order to rule out a direct personal reference.

Security Principles

In order to protect the data stored with us from accidental or intentional manipulation, loss, destruction or access by unauthorized persons, we have taken appropriate technical and organizational measures. Our security measures are being continuously improved according to technological developments. If you should wish to contact us by email, please be aware that the confidentiality of the transmitted information is not guaranteed. The content of emails might be viewed by third parties.

SSL or TLS Encryption

For security reasons and to protect the transmission of confidential content that you send us as the website operator, our website uses SSL or TLS encryption. As a result, data that you send via this website is not readable by third parties. You can recognize an encrypted connection by the “https://” address line of your browser and the padlock icon in the browser line.

Revisions to This Privacy Policy

For legal and/or organizational reasons, revisions or adjustments of our privacy policy are necessary from time to time. Please pay attention in this regard to the respective current version of our privacy policy, which can be reached automatically by clicking on the respective link. Revisions always apply to personal data recorded in the future. The protection of data that we recorded and stored prior to the revision is not affected by this.
